Impala Boks to meet Western Bulls in Mwamba Cup…
The Impala Saracens second side, Boks, will begin their Mwamba Cup campaign at Impala Club, on 8th March at 2pm. The senior side, Gazelles, will play later in the Enterprise Cup but away at Mombasa Sports Club. The Mwamba Cup, inaugurated in 1986, is a 16 team knockout tournament that runs alongside the Enterprise Cup.
This year, it comprises the second sides of Enterprise Cup teams, except Mombasa SC, together with Catholic University, Eldoret, Egerton, Daystar and Kabras Sugar RFCs. Of the Kenya Cup sides, Kisumu RFC is missing from both knockout competitions while Eldoret features in Mwamba Cup only. The only regional team fielding teams in both Enterprise and Mwamba Cups is Western Bulls.
The other teams on Impala Saracens’ side of the draw are Mwamba II who play Strathmore Catulus, at Railway Club, in the pre-quarters. Should the Boks win, they will play the winner of that match in the quarterfinals in the next weekend. On the same pooling side, Eldoret RFC are at home to Homeboyz II while, Catholic University host Mean Machine Ninjas in a varsity derby. The winners play each the next weekend in the quarterfinals.
